Skyland, Nevada is a lakeside community on Lake Tahoe’s eastern shore, established in the late 1950s. The land originally belonged to the Carson & Tahoe Lumber and Fluming Company in the 1870s, when it was heavily logged to support regional mining operations. In the 1930s, the wealthy and eccentric investor George Whittell Jr. purchased the property as part of his vast, private lakeside estate. Whittell eventually sold the 87-acre parcel to investors in 1957, clearing the way for the Stockton Corporation to develop the modern residential layout by 1959. Today, Skyland operates as a General Improvement District (GID), managing its own infrastructure and maintaining a private beach exclusively for its residents.
